KIDS IN Fremantle
Kid friendly activities Freo
There are lots of great places to visit with children while you are in Fremantle and as parents of two young kids we are always happy to answer any questions about what to do in Freo with kids. Here are some of our favourites…...
Esplanade Park is a great green space – with playground, ferris wheel and parcour space – just a 200m walk across the road. There is another kids playground outside the Fremantle Visitors Centre in Walyalup Koort (also home to Fremantle Library which is a nice spot to while away an hour with the kids).
Fremantle Prison offers great kid friendly tours, www.fremantleprison.com.au.
Journey through history and get a feel of the area at the free WA Shipwreck Museum. They have a great range of free children’s activities and crafts with lots of pirate adventures! www.visit.museum.wa.gov.au/shipwrecks.
The Maritime Museum is another great museum that is very child friendly, with interactive and sensory friendly resources available. The museum is about a 10 minute walk from the apartment. www.visit.museum.wa.gov.au/maritime.
Timezone is a fun, kid friendly arcade just 250m from the apartment on South Terrace. Full of flashing lights and fun games! www.timezonegames.com/en-au/locations/timezone-fremantle
Fomo Freo houses a range of casual restaurants and cafes as well as an indoor bowling alley and mini golf course! www.fomofreo.com.au
Eating with kids in Freo
Freo with Children Eating out with kids can be hit and miss sometimes! Here are a few of our favourite spots to eat out with kids so that everyone can enjoy themselves!
Gage Roads Brewery, just 800m from the apartment and next door to the Maritime Museum is brilliant for kids. With a wonderful, enclosed playground featuring lots of sand, old ships and trucks, as well as some indoor games, this is a great spot - with beautiful views for the parents. Food is always quick and well priced and they often have live music on weekends. www.gageroads.com.au/freo-brewery/the-venue
Clancy’s Fish Pub is another great spot for the kids to run around in the enclosed Princess May Park, which has a new kid friendly play area, while parents sit back and enjoy a local beer and pretty good fish and chips! www.clancysfishpub.com.au/fremantle
Spice Market is a great little Thai restaurant that the kids love for its “robot waitress” who brings your food to the table! Great fun and an accessible kids menu with full menu for the parents. www.spicemarketthai.com
Moore & Moore Cafe is a great spot to nourish the family, and it’s just around the corner! With a beautiful courtyard with kids play area and kids menu it is a great spot for breakfast and brunch. There is also a beautiful children’s book store next door – Paper Bird. www.mooreandmoorecafe.com.au
Cicerellos Fish & Chips at Fishing Boat Harbour is a bit of an institution in Freo. With the largest private aquarium on WA, you can get your fish and chips while the children explore the aquarium for free! www.cicerellos.com.au
